Washington, DC – Dick Cheney, former US Vice President under George W. Bush, has died at the age of 84, according to a statement released by his family. Cheney was one of the most prominent political figures of the modern era and the architect of the “War on Terror” policies and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Cheney served as vice president between 2001 and 2009. He also played a prominent role in crisis management after the September 11 attacks. His decisions were controversial, particularly regarding enhanced interrogation programs and the detention of suspects at Guantanamo.

Despite the criticism, Cheney expressed no regret for his policies, maintaining that they were necessary to protect the United States. In his later years, he became a prominent critic of former President Donald Trump and endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

Cheney left behind his wife Lynne, his daughters Liz and Mary, and seven grandchildren, leaving a controversial political legacy in modern American history.
