South Africa defeats Zimbabwe and joins Egypt in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations

Rabat, Morocco – The South African national team succeeded in accompanying the Egyptian national team to the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations, after achieving a difficult victory over its counterpart, the Zimbabwean national team, with a score of (3-2).

The South African and Zimbabwean national teams met at the Marrakech stadium, as part of the third and final round of the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

South Africa took an early lead in the seventh minute of the first half, through player Chepang Murime.

Zimbabwe responded quickly with an equalizer in the 19th minute, scored by Tawanda Maswanhaise.

The positive tie between the two teams continued until the 50th minute, when Lily Foster succeeded in scoring the second goal for the South African team.

Zimbabwe equalized again in the 73rd minute, after Aubrey Modiba scored an own goal.

In the 82nd minute, Bafana Bafana were awarded a penalty kick, which Ozwein Apulias successfully converted into the winning goal.

With this victory, the South African national team raised its tally to 6 points, qualifying for the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations as the runner-up of Group B, while the Zimbabwean national team’s tally remained at one point in fourth place, officially bidding farewell to the tournament.
