Abu Dhabi, UAE – Al Ain qualified for the UAE Pro League final despite losing to Al Nasr 2-0 in the semi-final match played this evening.
Al Nasr visited Al Ain at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium for the second leg of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Cup semi-final.
Al Nasr’s victory was not enough to qualify for the League Cup final, after losing the first leg 3-0. Al Ain thus qualified for the final for the sixth time in its history, winning 3-2 on aggregate.
Al-Nasr took the offensive initiative, with the first threat in the third minute with a shot that went just wide of the post from Agudelo, and in the fifth minute Al-Nasr scored the opening goal with a distinctive shot from Bernard Mensah.
Al Ain tried to get back into the game quickly, and the 15th minute witnessed Al Ain’s most prominent attack with a shot by Kodjo Laba that went just past the post, and another from Al Hussein Rahimi before the end of the first half that went over the crossbar, so the first half ended with Al Nasr leading by one goal.
The match became more exciting with a second goal for Al Nasr in the 65th minute by Ramon Mirez, who reached his 6th goal in 11 matches in the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Cup, and 3 of these goals were scored against Al Ain.
Al Ain pressed to score a goal to reduce the deficit, and in the 70th minute the home team came close to doing so, but Laba’s ball went just wide of the post.
Al-Nasr also tried during the match to score a third goal to equalize the score of the two matches, but the attempts did not bring anything new in terms of the result, so the match ended with Al-Nasr winning, and Al-Ain qualifying for the final match.
