San Ysidro, Argentina – The San Ysidro court in Argentina has announced that March 17, 2026, will be the date for the start of the new trial in the case of the death of football legend Diego Armando Maradona.

Highlights
  • The first trial was invalidated
  • Charge of premeditated murder
  • Medical negligence

This comes after the first trial was cancelled last May due to procedural irregularities.

According to Agence France-Presse, seven medical professionals will be retried.

On charges of possible negligence in the care of the 1986 Mexico World Cup champion,

He died in November 2020 at the age of 60 from a heart attack during a recovery period following brain surgery.

The first trial was invalidated

The court had annulled the first trial after hearings that lasted more than two months.

During this time, more than 40 witnesses were heard.

Following the discovery of the involvement of one of the three judges, Julieta McIntash,

في إعداد سلسلة وثائقية عن القضية دون علم الأطراف،

This later led her to resign and face her own trial.

Charge of premeditated murder

The accused doctors and nurses face charges of premeditated murder.

Any act of medical negligence while knowing that it may lead to death.

This is a charge punishable by imprisonment for between 8 and 25 years.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 12 to present arguments and determine the procedures for the upcoming trial.

Medical negligence

The prosecution is again seeking to determine whether Maradona’s death was caused by years of addiction and deteriorating health.

Or was it the result of avoidable medical negligence, while also investigating the possibility of malicious intent or gross negligence that led to his death?

In contrast, the defendants deny all the charges against them.

They emphasized that each of them played their part according to their specific responsibility in treating the late Argentine star.

Without assuming direct responsibility for the causes of death.
