Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump urged Republicans to unite and stand together. He warned that he could face impeachment if the party loses the midterm elections scheduled for November 2026 to the Democrats.
“You have to win the midterm elections, because if we don’t… they’re going to find some reason to impeach me. I’ll be impeached,” Trump told House Republican lawmakers in Washington.
The president urged Republicans to work as a team on several issues, including gender policies, healthcare, and election reform. He also stressed the need to sell his policies to a public frustrated by the rising cost of living. He emphasized that the party’s agenda will be on the line in the November elections, where Republicans and Democrats are vying for all seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate seats.
Trump predicted a major Republican victory in the upcoming elections. However, he expressed concern about the historical trend of the incumbent president’s party typically underperforming in midterm elections. He said, “They say that when you win the presidency, you lose the midterms. I wish you could explain to me what’s going on in the public’s mind.”
Trump pointed to the continued support he has received from Republicans, despite some emerging signs of independence in the House of Representatives. Representatives could vote to override his veto from last month, including on water projects in Colorado and Utah, though it’s unclear whether they will secure the necessary majority.
It is worth noting that Trump was impeached twice by the House of Representatives during his first term (2017-2021). The first impeachment was in 2019 on charges of abuse of power related to Ukraine. The second followed an attack on the Capitol building by his supporters on January 6, 2021. He was acquitted by the Senate both times.
