Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi Parliament announced that next Monday is the deadline for receiving applications for candidacy for the presidency, as part of the constitutional procedures related to completing the political process in the country.
In an official statement, the Parliament confirmed that the application period will close at the end of the official workday. It noted that all applications will be subject to legal review and vetting in accordance with constitutional regulations. Following this, they will be referred to the relevant authorities to complete the procedural process.
This announcement comes amidst active political maneuvering within parliament, as various blocs seek to finalize their choices and agree on candidates capable of securing the necessary parliamentary support. This occurs at a time when the Iraqi political scene is witnessing intensive consultations.
The election of the president is a pivotal step in the Iraqi political process, given his constitutional role and the importance of the political consensus required to complete his election within the Council of Representatives.
