Moscow, Russia – Russia has sharply criticized US President Donald Trump, accusing him of reviving what it called the “pirates of the Caribbean” on the international stage. This was a reference to policies and actions that Moscow considered to be encouraging chaos and legitimizing methods of pressure and domination outside the framework of international law.

Russian diplomatic sources stated that Trump’s statements and positions, both during his presidency and in the context of his recent political campaign, reflect an approach based on the logic of force and imposing a fait accompli. Moscow views this as a return to the practice of “political and economic piracy,” particularly concerning sanctions, interference in the affairs of other countries, and the handling of international crises.

The sources added that the use of economic pressure and threats against countries and companies, and the attempt to control vital waterways and energy resources, are reminiscent of historical practices. Those practices relied on plunder and influence, not on agreed-upon international rules and norms.

In this context, Russian officials argued that this approach contributes to undermining global stability. They explained that it fuels conflicts rather than resolving them. They warned that a return to “hard power” policies would lead to further international tensions and an open power struggle.

Moscow asserted that the world can no longer tolerate such policies. It called for respect for international law and the strengthening of balanced dialogue among major powers, deeming this necessary instead of reproducing outdated models based on hegemony and the imposition of interests by force.
