3Ankara, Türkiye – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during a telephone call with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro, stressed the importance of keeping channels of dialogue open between Caracas and Washington.

Highlights
  • Belief in a solution through dialogue
  • Tensions escalate between Washington and Caracas

According to a statement issued by the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Directorate on Saturday, President Erdogan informed his Venezuelan counterpart that Ankara is closely monitoring the escalating regional developments.

Belief in a solution through dialogue

President Erdogan stressed that Türkiye believes in resolving all problems through dialogue, a point it emphasizes in all international forums.

In this context, Erdogan stressed the importance of keeping channels of dialogue open between the United States and Venezuela, expressing his hope that tensions between the two countries would subside as soon as possible.

Tensions escalate between Washington and Caracas

The Turkish invitation comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and Venezuela.

Last August, US President Donald Trump issued an executive order authorizing increased military intervention, ostensibly to combat drug cartels in Latin America.

Washington announced the deployment of warships and a submarine off the coast of Venezuela. US Secretary of Defense Pete Higseth also stated that the military was prepared for operations, including regime change in Venezuela.

In response to these threats, Maduro announced the mobilization of 4.5 million troops across the country, ready to repel any potential attack.

The attacks by the US military on boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, under the pretext of drug smuggling, and the direct targeting of people on board, have sparked controversy in the international community regarding “extrajudicial killings”.
