Aden, Yemen – Several southern governorates, most notably the capital Aden and Shabwa Governorate, witnessed massive popular celebrations in jubilation over the victories of the Southern Armed Forces in Operation “Promising Future”.
According to field reports, the operation resulted in the liberation of Al-Mahra and the entire Hadramawt Valley and Desert from the grip of the First Military Region and terrorist groups.
The streets were filled with marches and southern flags, accompanied by fireworks and patriotic chants. This reflects widespread popular support for the Southern Transitional Council and the desire to restore the southern state.
Details and manifestations of popular joy
In the capital, Aden, widespread celebrations erupted in the main streets. Thousands of citizens marched in support, carrying pictures of President Aidarus Qasim al-Zubaidi and the South Yemeni flag.
Reports described the events as “affirming the unity of the South,” with labor unions and national associations participating in the congratulations.
Participants in the rallies praised the “historic victories” that ended “decades of occupation and chaos”.
In Shabwa Governorate, the border areas, especially Arin District, witnessed large public celebrations that included marches and the distribution of sweets, in celebration of the liberation of the valley.
Local sources confirmed that “Shabwa is celebrating the victories of the Southern Forces in liberating Arin and Wadi Hadramawt.” Residents welcomed the Southern Forces as “protectors of security and stability.”
Despite recent security tensions, residents of the liberated Wadi Hadramawt (Sayun and Tarim) joined the celebrations through local gatherings.
The crowds expressed their “adherence to the liberation option” that had been paved the way for in the previous million-person demonstration on November 30.
The National Assembly and the General Secretariat of the Transitional Council blessed these victories, praising the “bravery of the heroic soldiers” who preserved the cultural heritage of the Hadramis.
The military and political context of liberation
These celebrations followed the Southern Forces’ capture of key locations, including the headquarters of the First Military Region in Seiyun. They also seized Seiyun Airport and the Presidential Palace without major clashes, as the previously stationed forces withdrew.
President Aidarus al-Zubaidi, head of the Southern Transitional Council, issued a general amnesty for those who adhere to the cessation of hostilities. Prisoners were also immediately released, which helped to calm tensions and bolster public confidence.
The National Assembly’s administrative body affirmed that the liberation was “a response to the demands of the people of Hadramawt after decades of terrorism and injustice.” It also praised the role of the tribes and local youth in welcoming the forces.
Expected reactions and effects
Images and videos of the celebrations circulated on social media. Chants such as “Hadramawt is with the South” were heard, expressing the unity of the South from Aden to Al-Mahra.
The General Federation of Trade Unions of the South and the regional committees welcomed the victories, considering them “a step towards the southern state.”
Stability is expected to be strengthened, with plans for local recruitment to form independent defense forces in Al Mahrah and Hadhramaut.
These celebrations are considered a strong political message affirming the unity of the South in the face of challenges. Further official announcements regarding the new administration of the liberated areas are awaited.
