Tel Aviv, Israel – In a move carrying strong political messages to the world, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to travel to New York in the coming days. This is despite threats from International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan and demands from prominent legal figures, including Mahmoud Mamdani, who are calling for his immediate arrest upon arrival in the United States on charges of war crimes and human rights violations.

The visit comes amid widespread international controversy. Observers believe Netanyahu is seeking to leverage his appearance in New York to rehabilitate his image on the global diplomatic stage. This occurs at a time when he is facing unprecedented domestic and international pressure, while human rights groups are increasingly calling for him to be barred from entering the country or arrested in accordance with the indictments.

According to diplomatic sources, Netanyahu is expected to participate in high-level meetings. He will also hold meetings with American officials, despite signs of anger within American academic and human rights circles. They consider his reception “a blow to international law and a bad omen for the principles of international justice.”

Analysts believe Netanyahu’s insistence on the visit is a defiant message to international justice bodies. It is also seen as an attempt to demonstrate that he still enjoys “political legitimacy” and freedom of movement, despite the serious charges against him. Meanwhile, other predictions suggest the possibility of massive protests erupting in New York upon his arrival.

Political and media circles are closely following the potential repercussions of the visit, amid questions about the US administration’s reaction. Will it comply—even formally—with calls for his arrest, or will it ignore the matter? This could ignite a new wave of criticism against Washington regarding international justice and double standards.
