Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Hamas has announced its readiness to release all detainees. However, in reality, there is no unity within its ranks on this issue.

Highlights
  • Hamas: “No trust in Israel”
  • Gaza handed over to an independent body

Its members also failed to reach an agreement on disarmament, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing Arab officials.

According to the newspaper, some Hamas members are convinced that US President Donald Trump’s plan to end combat operations in the Gaza Strip will only lead to a “72-hour ceasefire.” It will not result in a complete peace settlement.

Hamas: “No trust in Israel”

This position is due to the movement’s lack of confidence in Israel.

The movement confirmed its agreement to release all detainees. Additionally, it agreed to hand over the administration of Gaza to a body of “independents”.

They are among the items in the US President’s plan that enjoy Israel’s support.

But she stressed the need to negotiate other points related to the “future of the sector” contained in the proposal.

For its part, the Jihad movement announced in a statement on Saturday that it participated in the consultations. These consultations led to Hamas’ decision.

She stressed that Hamas’ response to Trump’s plan is an expression of the factions’ position.

Gaza handed over to an independent body

Hamas announced on Friday that it had submitted its response to President Trump’s plan to resolve the conflict in Gaza to mediators.

She expressed her readiness to release all living Israeli detainees in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, they will hand over the bodies of the dead.

Hamas also announced its readiness to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent Palestinian body of technocrats.

The movement indicated in its statement that all Palestinian factions had reached an agreement. This agreement highlighted the necessity of forming a future administrative body that would enjoy the support of Arab and Islamic countries.

It is noteworthy that on September 29 (September), the White House published a plan to settle the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The plan includes a call for a complete cessation of hostilities. It also demands the release of those detained by Hamas within 72 hours.

The document also proposed transferring the Gaza Strip to an external administration for a transitional period. During this time, the Strip’s residents would be given the opportunity to leave and return.
