Barak: We continue to support Lebanon to rebuild the state

Washington, United States – The US envoy to Syria, Tom Brack, confirmed that the United States continues to support Lebanon’s efforts to rebuild the country. They are also finding peace with neighbors.

Highlights
  • Hezbollah activities
  • Demands to put pressure on Israel
  • Lebanese decision

Barak added that his country continues to support Lebanon in implementing the agreement with Israel and disarming Hezbollah.

Hezbollah activities

This position came as Hezbollah is expected to hold events this afternoon. This marks one year after the assassination of its two secretaries-general, Hassan Nasrallah and Hisham Safi al-Din.

According to experts, he also emerged weak from a bloody war with Israel. The war lasted for nearly a year and ended with a ceasefire agreement. This agreement came into effect on November 28 (2024).

Demands to put pressure on Israel

Barak’s statement also came a few days after Lebanese President Joseph Aoun appealed to “the international community, whose leaders are present in the corridors of the United Nations.” He urged them “to make every effort to stop violations of international resolutions. Furthermore, they should pressure Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory”.

In turn, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam urged, a few days ago, the countries sponsoring the cessation of hostilities agreement to exert maximum pressure on Israel. He wants them to stop its attacks immediately.

In addition to withdrawing from the occupied Lebanese territories and releasing prisoners.

Lebanese decision

The Lebanese government decided in August to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year.

This comes amid American pressure and threats that Israel will expand its strikes.

Foreign Minister Yousef Raji explained that the plan drawn up by the army to disarm Hezbollah stipulates that this will be accomplished in the border area with Israel within three months.

The army confirmed that it had developed a plan for this.

He warned that the continued presence of Israeli forces in the south of the country and their ongoing attacks were hindering its deployment.

Since the ceasefire last November between Israel and Hezbollah, Israeli forces have launched attacks and raids on sites and villages in the south on an almost daily basis.

Israel says it is targeting the party.

Israel also refused to withdraw from five strategic Lebanese hills overlooking both sides of the border.
