Sudan: The fire of war does not subside

Since 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in an ongoing war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. This conflict has resulted in more than 10,000 deaths and the displacement of over 300,000 people. In May 2025, clashes continued in Darfur and Kordofan, with drone attacks on power plants, fuel depots, and the civilian airport. The humanitarian crisis is worsening, with civilians facing shortages of food, water, and health services. The growing displacement also threatens the stability of neighboring countries.

Libya: Between Chaos and Militias

Tripoli has been witnessing ongoing conflict between local militias, particularly after the assassination of Stabilization Support Apparatus commander Abdulghani al-Kikli in May 2025. Clashes between the 444th Infantry Brigade and the Stabilization Support Apparatus have further deteriorated the security situation. This conflict has impacted oil production and global energy prices. It has also increased the influence of armed groups and hampered UN efforts to achieve political stability.

Syria: A Geography of Divisions and Enduring Conflict

Syria is heading toward de facto partition. The regime is controlling limited areas, and the SDF controls the north and east of the country. In July 2025, clashes erupted in Sweida between Druze armed groups and fighters from Bedouin tribes. These clashes resulted in dozens of deaths. Civilians are suffering from widespread displacement, while regional interventions complicate the political landscape. These complications hamper reconstruction and economic efforts.

Gaza: An Open Cycle of Escalation

The Gaza Strip is witnessing renewed escalation between Palestinian factions and Israel, resulting in hundreds of deaths and the destruction of infrastructure. In September 2025, the European Commission proposed imposing sanctions on Israel. Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations called for an immediate ceasefire. The humanitarian crisis is severe, with food and medicine shortages. Additionally, regional tensions are escalating, hindering any lasting political solution.

Yemen: A Tragedy Without End

The Israeli Air Force launched extensive airstrikes on Sana’a International Airport in May 2025, completely destroying it. The losses are estimated at $500 million. The war is exacerbating famine and the spread of disease. It disrupts transportation networks and essential services. Also, regional intervention has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, threatening millions of civilians.

Ukraine and Russia: Conflict on all fronts

The Russian-Ukrainian war continues into its third year, with Russian forces advancing around the city of Pokrovsk. Ukrainian forces are actively repelling attacks. Meanwhile, US arms shipments, including air defense missiles and HIMARS launchers, have arrived. The conflict has impacted European security and global energy and food markets. It is deepening international divisions and hampering any diplomatic efforts toward a comprehensive solution.

Everyone pays the price

The world is fraught with endless conflicts, from the Middle East to Eastern Europe. These conflicts are intertwined with regional and international interests and political and economic ambitions. Civilians are the most affected.
