Tanzania – Samia Suluhu Hassan has won a new term as president of Tanzania, according to official results. The results confirmed her victory over her rivals in the general election, which was marred by tensions and limited violence in some areas.

The Tanzanian electoral commission confirmed that the process was conducted in accordance with constitutional rules, while the United Nations expressed concern over reports of excessive use of force during the elections. The UN called for respect for human rights and for ensuring safe political participation for all citizens.

Samia Suluhu Hassan is the first woman to become president of Tanzania. In her inaugural address following the announcement of the results, she affirmed her commitment to achieving stability and promoting economic development. She also pledged to work towards strengthening democracy and fostering national dialogue.
