Jakarta, Indonesia – Indonesian search and rescue teams have been working tirelessly since the early hours to locate 20 people missing after a landslide struck the Chisarua region. There are feared victims trapped under the rubble.

Local officials said heavy rains over the past few days triggered the landslide, burying several houses and entire streets. Infrastructure was also severely damaged, further complicating rescue operations.

Authorities indicated that rescue teams are equipped with heavy machinery and motion detectors for use under debris. Medical teams are also on standby to provide first aid to survivors. Civil defense and military personnel are continuing to meticulously search the area.

This disaster highlights the precarious nature of Indonesia’s mountainous terrain, which frequently experiences landslides and floods due to seasonal rains. Amidst this, calls are growing for increased prevention measures and improved infrastructure to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
