Washington, DC – US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Tuesday the launch of a new mission to transfer ISIS detainees from northeastern Syria to Iraq. This aims to ensure they remain in secure and protected detention facilities.

During this operation, 150 ISIS fighters held at a detention facility in the Syrian city of Hasakah were transferred to a secure location in Iraq.

This move is aimed at preventing any escape attempts that could threaten regional and US security. The operation is expected to eventually involve transferring up to 7,000 ISIS detainees to facilities under the control of Iraqi authorities.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S.

Central Command, said: “We are coordinating closely with our regional partners,

including the Iraqi government, and appreciate their role in ensuring the continued defeat of ISIS.

Facilitating the safe and orderly transfer of ISIS detainees is critical to preventing any breaches

that could pose a direct threat to the United States and the security of the region.”

The statement indicated that U.S. and partner forces successfully detained more than 300 ISIS members

in Syria in 2025 and killed more than 20 others during the same period.

This operation is part of the international coalition’s efforts to defeat terrorist organizations.

Moreover, it reflects the commitment of the United States and its partners to ensuring

that ISIS elements cannot regroup or threaten regional stability.

U.S. Central Command confirmed that the mission will continue in coordination

with Iraqi authorities to ensure the safe transfer of all detainees.

At the same time, they will maintain strict oversight to prevent any breaches that could harm international security interests.
