Tel Aviv, Israel – Amid widespread controversy, Israeli Defense Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced the demolition of the offices of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem, describing the move as a “historic day.”

This announcement sparked a wave of public and international outrage. Jerusalem’s streets immediately became the scene of escalating clashes between local residents and Israeli forces, with the extensive use of rubber bullets and tear gas. These scenes reflected the city’s unprecedented tension.

The United Nations expressed its deep concern, deeming the demolition a “serious violation of humanitarian institutions and a direct threat to the city’s residents.” International organizations called for the protection of civilians and a reversal of actions that further escalate tensions.

Analysts suggest that Ben-Gvir’s move comes within the context of an ongoing escalation of tensions surrounding properties and administrative sites in Jerusalem. This could ignite a new conflict, further complicating the security and political situation in the city.

The current situation on the ground suggests that the coming days may bring even greater confrontations. There are also warnings of humanitarian and political repercussions that could extend to the regional and international levels, as the world follows with concern these heated developments in the heart of Jerusalem.
