Cairo, Egypt – In an urgent statement to Cairo News Channel, the former Minister of Industry in Greenland’s government said that deploying any additional military forces to the island is not based on any real justification. He also stressed that the current situation is worrying given the absence of an effective authority capable of making decisive decisions regarding the territory’s future.

The former official explained that Greenland is going through a sensitive period that requires clear political and administrative solutions, not a military escalation that would only complicate the situation and increase tensions. He added that the lack of a strong and effective decision-making center makes any military actions questionable. Therefore, it could open the door to scenarios with unforeseen consequences.

The former industry minister pointed out that the United States already has a military base in Greenland, and that existing agreements clearly stipulate Washington’s responsibility for the island’s defense. Therefore, this negates the need for any additional military presence or new actions under unjustified security pretexts.

He emphasized that Greenland’s fate must remain solely in the hands of its people. He also stressed that any discussions concerning the island’s security or political future must respect the residents’ right to self-determination, free from international pressure or power struggles between major powers.

These statements come at a time of growing international attention on Greenland, given its strategic location in the Arctic and its military and economic importance. This is occurring amidst escalating debate over the foreign military presence on the island.

The former official’s stance reflects a growing concern within Greenland’s political circles about the island becoming an arena for international competition, despite repeated calls to maintain stability, prioritize political solutions, and respect the will of the people as the foundation for determining the territory’s future.
