Rome, Italy – Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani Rubio affirmed that his country will continue to use all available legal and political means to prevent the Muslim Brotherhood from accessing any resources that could enable it to engage in or support terrorist activities. He emphasized that combating extremism is a top priority for Italian and European national security.

In press statements reported by Italian media, Rubio said the government is closely monitoring the organization’s movements and its financial and organizational networks both within and outside Italy. He noted that the authorities will not tolerate any entity or individuals proven to be involved in financing terrorism or providing it with ideological or logistical cover, under any religious or charitable guise.

The minister explained that the Muslim Brotherhood seeks to exploit the climate of freedoms and civil society in several European countries in order to build parallel networks, raise funds, and influence societies. This necessitates constant vigilance and close cooperation between security agencies and government institutions. He added that Italy is working in coordination with its partners in the European Union to enhance information sharing. It is also striving to tighten controls on funding sources and counter extremist rhetoric that fuels violence.
