"Rapid deployment" budget: How is Britain preparing for the post-security agreement phase in Ukraine?
Military support for Kyiv has increased (Photo/Archive)

London, UK – In a move reflecting increased military support for Kyiv, the British government announced it will allocate £200 million (approximately $270 million). This funding will be used for logistical and technical preparations for the potential deployment of British troops to Ukraine. This step follows London’s pledges to participate in a multinational force to support any potential ceasefire agreement.

Highlights
  • Details of the new military support
  • International coalition and Russian pressure
  • Context of current tensions

Details of the new military support

During his visit to Kyiv on Friday, British Defense Secretary John Healey outlined the allocation of this substantial budget, stating that it would include:

Modernizing military vehicles and advanced communications systems. Developing defense systems against drones. In addition, ensuring the forces are at peak readiness for rapid deployment upon orders.

International coalition and Russian pressure

This British move comes as part of a “declaration of intent” agreed upon last Tuesday. The agreement was between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This alliance aims to outline the deployment of international forces to ensure future security.

Context of current tensions

The French response: President Macron confirmed France’s readiness to send thousands of troops to bolster security guarantees for Kyiv.

The Russian warning: The British announcement coincided with Russia’s launch of a hypersonic missile. Western allies considered it a clear attempt at intimidation.

The British position: While London has not yet specified the number of troops involved, Starmer confirmed that plans are still being carefully crafted to meet the demands of the current phase. He added, “This funding is not just financial support; it’s a message of readiness to ensure the stability of the region and protect our allies.” — From statements by the British Defense Secretary in Kyiv.
