Seiyun, Yemen – Violent explosions rocked the city of Seiyun in Wadi Hadramawt (eastern Yemen) on Friday, following a series of airstrikes carried out by Saudi Air Force.

Highlights
  • Targeting the airport and the headquarters
  • Background to the conflict
  • Bloody toll and official silence

Strategic sites controlled by the Southern Transitional Council forces were targeted,

in a field development that puts the relationship between the coalition partners on the verge of collapse.

Targeting the airport and the headquarters

Media outlets affiliated with the Transitional Council, and field sources,

confirmed that Saudi warplanes launched between 3 and 7 airstrikes.

It focused directly on the headquarters of the First Military Region in the heart of Seiyun city.

The bombing also reached the vicinity of Seiyun International Airport (civilian),

causing widespread panic among local residents and shaking the central neighborhoods of the city.

According to southern sources, at least two airstrikes targeted the main military headquarters,

in what appears to be a large-scale air operation to force southern forces to withdraw.

Background to the conflict

This airstrike comes after the failure of a recent “peace process” led

by Riyadh to regain control of military sites in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra.

Which was taken over by the Southern Transitional Council last December.

With the Transitional Council refusing to withdraw, Riyadh moved to

using brute force to support government forces and its “Homeland Shield” forces.

Bloody toll and official silence

Simultaneously with the Sayun raids, field reports indicated 7 deaths and a number of injuries.

This was in similar raids that targeted the “Al-Khashaa” area earlier on the same day.
