Washington, USA – The United States experienced widespread disruptions to air and land transportation after a powerful winter storm swept through several states,

Highlights
  • More than 1068 flights cancelled
  • Storm impact on travel

causing the cancellation and delay of thousands of flights.

This created a state of partial paralysis in travel, especially in the major cities in the northeast of the country.

According to the Travel and Tour World website, the storm that hit New York, Boston,

Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., caused major chaos inside the main airports.

With heavy snow accumulation and a sharp drop in visibility,

thousands of travelers were forced to seek alternatives or rearrange their trips.

More than 1068 flights cancelled

Major US airlines, including JetBlue, American Airlines, and Delta, announced

Southwest and United reported the cancellation of more than 1,068 flights.

This is in addition to recording thousands of delays,

which put a lot of pressure on passengers and flight crews.

New York airports were the hardest hit, with hundreds of flights cancelled

at John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark airports.

Thousands of passengers remained stranded inside waiting areas.

Boston’s Logan Airport, Philadelphia International Airport,

and Chicago’s O’Hare Airport also recorded large numbers of delays and cancellations.

Storm impact on travel

The storm’s effects extended to road travel, with highways experiencing heavy traffic and sporadic accidents.

This is due to the accumulation of snow and ice, which has prompted local

authorities to urge citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.

The National Weather Service also issued severe warnings in a number of areas,

predicting snowfall that could exceed 25 centimeters in some states.

Airlines advised travelers to follow official updates and contact air carriers directly

to find out about rebooking options without additional fees.

This comes as emergency teams and local authorities continue their efforts

to mitigate the effects of the storm and ensure the safety of travelers.
