Cairo, Egypt – Israel’s recent decision to recognize the Somalia land region has sparked widespread Arab and regional reactions,

Highlights
  • Israel condemns recognition of Somaliland
  • A fundamental pillar for the stability of the international system

after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that

this measure comes within what he called “mutual recognition”.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Friday evening,

saying that Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration

and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, received phone calls from both

Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Somalia,

Hakan Fidan, the Turkish Foreign Minister, and Abdoulkader Hussein Omar, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Djibouti,

The discussions addressed the recent serious developments in the Horn of Africa region.

Israel condemns recognition of Somaliland

The statement said the talks addressed developments related

to Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region.

The ministers emphasized their complete rejection and condemnation

of Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region.

They emphasized their full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.

And the complete rejection of any unilateral actions that would infringe

upon Somali sovereignty or undermine the foundations of stability in the country.

They also affirmed their support for the legitimate Somali state institutions

and rejected any attempts to impose parallel entities that conflict with the unity of the Somali state.

A fundamental pillar for the stability of the international system

The discussions also emphasized that recognizing the independence of parts of a country’s territory is

a dangerous precedent and a threat to international peace

and security and to the established principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Respect for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states

is a fundamental pillar of the stability of the international system.

It must not be tampered with or circumvented under any pretext.

While emphasizing the rejection of any attempts to impose a new reality

or create parallel entities that contradict international legitimacy

This undermines opportunities for achieving security, stability, and development.

The categorical rejection of any plans to displace the Palestinian people from their land was emphasized.

Which is rejected by the vast majority of the world’s countries in form, substance, and in a categorical manner.
