Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese authorities are preparing to move to the second phase of their plan to restrict weapons south of the Litani River. The first phase has achieved positive results in controlling weapons and strengthening state control over the territory south of the river.

Government sources confirmed that the Lebanese army successfully carried out most of the planned field operations in the first phase. This phase focused on the southern border regions, with documentation of the field and administrative results. This documentation paves the way for the next phase, which will involve a gradual expansion into other areas. The goal is to consolidate security control throughout southern Lebanon and strengthen the state’s ability to assert its authority.

The plan aims to ensure that military power remains solely in the hands of the state. It also seeks to bolster security and stability and prevent any potential breaches. Sources emphasized the importance of political cooperation and public support for the success of these vital efforts.

The second phase is expected to see an increased deployment of the Lebanese army. Observation and inspection points will be reinforced to ensure the plan’s full implementation. There will be close monitoring of all parties’ adherence to the plan, particularly in sensitive areas near the border with Israel.

Officials indicate that continued domestic and international support for the army is crucial to ensuring the completion of the weapons control plan without any setbacks. This support contributes to strengthening overall stability in Lebanon and prevents any potential security escalation in the near future.
