Seoul, South Korea – The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced it had lifted its preliminary warning for heavy snowfall in Seoul and several northwestern areas of Gyeonggi Province. This occurred on Saturday evening, December 13, 2025, due to a decreased likelihood of a formal warning being issued.
The initial warning (advance alert) was issued at 6:00 PM. However, the agency later announced that it had been canceled for the following areas due to changing weather conditions:
The northeastern region of Seoul (including the districts of Doopong-gu, Noon-gu, and Jongnong-gu, among others), and Gyeonggi Province (including the cities of Dongdochon, Yangju, Uijeongbu, Paju, Guri, Namyangju, and Hanam).
The agency attributed the cancellation to the southeastward movement of the cloud belt associated with the low-pressure system. This resulted in “the North Capital Region, including Seoul, gradually escaping the influence of the strong snow cloud belt. Snowfall is also weakening.”
Warnings remain in place and concerns are growing about black ice.
Meanwhile, warnings of heavy snowfall remain in effect in other areas. Some regions have already experienced significant accumulations, such as Hangeryeong County in Inje County, Gangwon Province, where heavy snow has piled up.
Warnings also remain in effect for: Gwangju and Yangpyeong in Gyeonggi Province, the southern mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, Taebaek, Taebaek, Yeongwol, and the Jeongseon-gun Plains. Additionally, warnings are in effect for some areas in South Jeolla and South Chungcheong Provinces and the mountainous areas of Jeju Island.
The meteorological department warned drivers that expected snow could accumulate overnight. In areas where ground temperatures are low, rain or snow may freeze. This leads to the formation of many icy roads and black ice, urging extreme caution while driving.
