Berlin, Germany – The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) announced on Tuesday that they are taking the first steps towards deploying the new “Arrow 3” missile defense system,
which represents a qualitative leap in their defense capabilities.
The German Air Force stated that Inspector General Carsten Breuer
and Air Force Inspector Lieutenant General Holger Neumann will make an announcement on December 3rd.
This is at the Holzdorf Air Base in the Schönewalde region, regarding the start of the system’s initial operational capability.
Closing a critical gap in air defense
The acquisition of the system, which is Israeli-made,
is a direct response by Germany to the growing security threat posed by Russia in the region.
For the first time, the Arrow 3 system will give Germany the ability to detect
and intercept ballistic missiles coming from outside the Earth’s atmosphere.
It also destroys missiles at altitudes exceeding 100 kilometers,
thus enabling the neutralization of threats in the upper
layers of the atmosphere and in near space.
This new capability is intended to fill a crucial gap
in the German and European missile defense system.
Holzdorf base… the first publishing site
The Holzdorf base, located south of Berlin near the borders
of the states of Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony,
It is the first of three sites planned for the deployment of the Arrow 3 system in Germany.
This huge investment comes as part of a broader initiative launched
by the German government called the “European Sky Shield Initiative”.
It is a multinational effort aimed at developing an integrated
continental missile defense network, in response to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
