The European Union launches a €14.26 million project to integrate refugees in Ethiopia

Brussels, Belgium – The European Union, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Government of Ethiopia,

  • Makatet Roadmap
  • Strengthening health services

has launched a €14.26 million initiative to promote refugee integration

and sustainable solutions in the Kibrebayah camp in Ethiopia’s Somali region.

The project benefits more than 20,000 refugees and more than 52,000 members

of host communities and internally displaced persons.

The project, which is being implemented by the Commission in close cooperation

with federal and regional authorities, aims to

This leads to expanding access to basic services

and integrating refugees into national systems.

Makatet Roadmap

The European Union initiative is in line with the Makatet Roadmap

and the multi-year Resilience Investment Plan for Ethiopia’s Somali Region.

This is to promote resilient societies capable of achieving peace,

stability and sustainable development.

The project includes the construction of hundreds of affordable

housing units and the development of sanitation facilities.

And improving spatial planning and infrastructure.

It will also provide better education by creating new classrooms and a library,

and converting schools to solar power.

Integrating refugee learners into the regional education system.

Strengthening health services

European Union ..In the health sector, health services will be enhanced

by providing new facilities, equipment, ambulances and medicines.

Solid waste management will also be improved, and governance

and coordination will be strengthened to ensure the sustainability of services.

Empowering refugees and host communities to build a better future.

The project will begin immediately to deliver tangible benefits

to Kibribah and the surrounding areas.
