China – A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Xinjiang region in far northwest China, according to earthquake monitoring authorities.

Residents in several neighboring areas felt the slight tremor. Authorities have not yet reported any casualties or property damage.

The monitoring and follow-up teams are continuing to analyze the initial data to accurately determine the epicenter and depth of the earthquake, while raising the level of preparedness in anticipation of subsequent aftershocks.

Xinjiang is one of the most seismically active regions in the country. This is due to its location on an active tectonic belt that runs along China’s western border.
