Venezuela – Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro delivered a direct and strong message to the American people. He warned that his country could face a “genocide” similar to what is happening in the Gaza Strip if the United States launches any direct military action against Venezuela.

Highlights
  • Warning of “genocide”
  • 🇺🇸 Ambiguity of the American position

Maduro’s remarks came during a speech in the capital, Caracas. This followed increased US military activity in the Caribbean and reports that senior military officials had presented US President Donald Trump with options for potential operations.

Warning of “genocide”

Maduro directly linked Venezuela’s fate to what is happening in Palestine. He said: “Humanity has suffered enough from the genocide in Gaza. There is almost no nation that does not recognize what is happening there as genocide… Every day attacks are carried out that violate the ceasefire. Palestinian children and women are being killed by bombs dropped by the Zionist occupation’s planes. This is a fact. Do you want a new Gaza in South America?”

Maduro pointed out that opinion polls show, for the first time in US history, that young Americans view what is happening in Gaza as genocide. He asserted that Washington is targeting not only Venezuela, but all of Latin America.

🇺🇸 Ambiguity of the American position

These warnings come as US President Donald Trump yesterday declined to comment explicitly on the possibility of military action against Venezuela. When asked whether he had made a decision on military action, Trump replied vaguely: “I can’t tell you that, but there are some ideas about it.”

Last August, Trump issued an executive order to increase the US military presence in the region. This increase was justified as a means of combating drug cartels in Latin America, a claim Caracas rejects as a pretext for intervention.
