Tehran, Iran – Iranian authorities announced plans to periodically cut off water in the capital, Tehran, in order to reduce consumption,

amid what they described as one of the worst droughts to hit the country in decades.

The Iranian Ministry of Energy said in a statement carried by local media that the decision comes as a result

of the significant decrease in dam levels and the decline in rainfall rates during the current year.

This has caused unprecedented pressure on water resources in the capital,

which is home to more than 9 million people.

The statement indicated that the rationing plan will include a timetable

for cutting off water to certain areas for specific periods.

Priority will be given to hospitals and vital facilities to avoid any direct damage.

drastic climate changes

The government also called on citizens to rationalize their consumption of water and electricity.

She stressed that the continuation of the current situation could lead to stricter measures in the coming weeks.

This announcement comes at a time when Iran is facing severe climate change and rising temperatures.

This is in addition to poor water resource management and increasing population demand.

Environmental experts believe that the continuation of this crisis could

lead to widespread economic and agricultural impacts.

Especially in the central and southern regions of the country.
