Cairo, Egypt – The General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) today approved the election of Egyptian Khaled El-Enany as the organization’s new Director-General. The election took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Khaled El-Enany’s appointment to this high position is a historic achievement, as he became the first Egyptian, Arab, and second African to head UNESCO.

Overwhelming international support

Dr. El-Anani’s election was approved with overwhelming support from 172 out of 175 member states of the UNESCO General Conference.

This high level of support reflects the significant international confidence in El-Anani. It also demonstrates his competence, experience, and comprehensive vision for the organization’s work and future.
