Washington, USA – US President Donald Trump sparked a new wave of controversy in the American political arena after posting a comment on social media platforms in
which he said that “any Jewish person who votes for Zahran Mamdani is a stupid person.”
Referring to the progressive Democratic representative
who represents the Queens area in the New York State Legislature,
He is known for his critical stances on Israeli policies.
Trump’s statements
Trump’s remarks sparked widespread anger in American political and media circles.
This is part of a series of repeated attacks he has been launching for months against Mamdani.
Describing him in previous posts as a “communist” and “completely deranged,”
He even went so far as to say that he “might be arrested” if he wins the White House again.
Mamdani, who was born in Uganda to parents of Indian origin,
is known for his political and social activism within the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
And with his outspoken stances against the war in Gaza and
his repeated calls to halt US military aid to Israel.
Trump attack
He is also one of the most prominent voices within the party
calling for a reassessment of the traditional US-Israeli alliance.
This made him a frequent target of attacks from conservatives and pro-Israel groups.
Analysts believe Trump’s latest attack is part of an election strategy.
It aims to appeal to the right-wing and evangelical base that supports Israel.
With the presidential race heating up and the date of the next elections approaching.
Mamdani responds
Trump is also trying to exploit the polarization within the Democratic Party.
Younger members are increasingly divided over
their stance on the conflict in the Middle East.
In response, Mamdani said via the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) that
“Trump attacks everyone who raises their voice in defense of justice for the Palestinian people.”
He added that “incendiary rhetoric will not silence the voices
calling for an end to the occupation and the establishment of a just peace.”
Widespread condemnations
Trump’s remarks have been widely condemned by American Jewish leaders.
She saw it as “dangerous incitement and implicit hostility
towards Jews who disagree with him politically.”
Human rights organizations have argued that President Trump is
“exploiting religion for electoral purposes and fueling internal division.”
The Democratic Party is facing internal pressure from its progressive wing,
which is demanding a change in the American position towards Israel.
