Israeli media described the victory of Indian-American politician Zahran Mamdani in the New York mayoral election as “a dark and shameful day that will be remembered.” They considered his election a worrying shift in the attitudes of American voters.
The Israeli criticism stemmed from Mamdani’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause. He also accused Tel Aviv of human rights violations. This angered Israeli circles, who viewed his victory as a “victory for the anti-Israel movement” within the United States.
Mamdani is the first Indian-American elected mayor of America’s largest city. His election campaign focused on social justice, equality, and ending unconditional support for Israel.
