Athens, Cyprus – Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides announced on Tuesday that his country is working to establish a regional organization to promote security and stability in the Middle East. He explained that this is a step aimed at transforming the region into an area of cooperation rather than conflict.

Speaking at a conference in the capital, Nicosia, Christodoulides said his country “is seeking to create the necessary political conditions for the establishment of a regional organization for peace and cooperation.” He explained that this initiative could serve as “a platform for consolidating stability in one of the world’s most turbulent regions.”

The Cypriot president added:

“If you wish, a form of NATO or OSCE in the Middle East would enhance the benefits of regional cooperation.”

He explained that the proposed organization would not be a military alliance, but rather a framework for dialogue, information exchange, and political and security coordination among regional states.

Christodoulides affirmed Cyprus’s readiness to lead this initiative. He also emphasized that Nicosia could serve as a diplomatic bridge between Europe and its neighbors in the Middle East and North Africa, thanks to its unique geographical location and balanced relations with various parties.
