Paris, France – The French Interior Ministry revealed in its annual report issued today, Friday, that the number of women killed by their husbands or former partners in France during 2024 reached 107 cases.

Highlights
  • Use of bladed weapons
  • Break the silence

With an increase of 11% compared to 2023, this once again highlights

the escalating phenomenon of domestic violence in the country.

Use of bladed weapons

The report, according to AFP, explained that the majority of the victims were in previous or current relationships characterized by repeated violence.

Approximately two-thirds of the crimes occurred inside the home, and bladed weapons were used in a large percentage of cases.

He also pointed out that the percentage of victims who filed complaints

before their murder does not exceed 20%, reflecting the continued fear

or lack of trust among many women in seeking protection.

For her part, the Minister for Gender Equality, Agnès Pannier-Runacker,

described the figures as “horrifying and painful”.

She confirmed that the French government is working to strengthen prevention and protection measures.

This includes increasing the number of shelters for abused women

and intensifying awareness campaigns in schools and local communities.

Break the silence

The minister called for “breaking the silence” and encouraging women

to report any form of domestic violence early.

She noted that France records hundreds of thousands of complaints

related to domestic violence annually, despite government efforts.

The French government also recently launched a new national plan aimed at reducing femicides by 50% within five years.

Through legal reforms and expanding psychosocial support programs for victims.
