Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that China has agreed to begin purchasing energy resources from the United States. This move is expected to bolster economic ties between the two countries after a period of trade and political tensions.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “I had a great meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. There is great mutual respect between our two countries, and we agreed on many things, while other issues of great importance are nearing resolution. Furthermore, China agreed to continue the open and free flow of rare and critical minerals, magnets, etc.”
Trump explained that Beijing had agreed to begin purchasing American energy resources. He indicated that a large-scale deal involving the purchase of oil and gas from Alaska was likely. He also confirmed that China had agreed to continue exporting rare and critical minerals without restrictions. This is seen as a strategically important move given the vital role these minerals play in the technological and military industries worldwide.
In the same vein, Trump thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for allowing the resumption of purchases of American agricultural products. He added, “I am very honored that the Chinese president has agreed to begin purchasing large quantities of beans, sorghum, and other agricultural products. Our farmers will be very happy.”
Trump added in a message to American farmers: “I advise our farmers to start buying more land and larger tractors immediately.”
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his return to Washington, Trump asserted that his meeting with Xi Jinping was extremely successful. He added that excellent decisions were made and understandings reached on a number of important issues. He also expressed his hope for a comprehensive deal with China in the near future.
The US president revealed that he discussed the Ukrainian crisis with his Chinese counterpart. He explained that Xi Jinping pledged to help resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, saying, “We will work together to try to resolve Russia’s war with Ukraine.”
Trump indicated that he did not discuss the issue of China purchasing Russian oil. He explained, “The Chinese president has been buying Russian oil for a long time, but this topic was not raised at the meeting.”
Trump also confirmed that the Taiwan issue was not on the table during the talks. He praised the atmosphere of the meeting, describing it as “very friendly.”
The meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping took place this morning at Gimhae Air Base in Busan, South Korea. It was part of an Asian tour by the US president aimed at strengthening cooperation with allies and rebuilding trust with China.
In closing, Trump expressed his desire for a “great and long-lasting” relationship between the United States and China, emphasizing that Washington seeks to open a new chapter of economic and political cooperation with Beijing.
