Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese newspaper Al-Liwaa reported that a high-level Egyptian delegation, headed by Hassan Rashad, head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, has traveled to Beirut on an urgent visit. The visit aims to warn Lebanese officials of the deteriorating border situation with Israel and the need to prevent an imminent war.

Highlights
  • A warning message and proposals to “remove Israeli pretexts”
  • Meetings with senior officials

The Egyptian delegation, scheduled to arrive in Beirut in the next few hours, carries a warning message regarding the escalating situation on the Lebanese-Israeli border. This message is particularly aimed at preventing the collapse of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. In this context, Rashad recently met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv as part of efforts to prevent escalation.

A warning message and proposals to “remove Israeli pretexts”

According to sources quoted by the newspaper, Rashad will deliver a strongly worded warning message to the Lebanese authorities. He emphasized that the border situation has become more dangerous. The message included an explicit call for practical steps to remove “Israeli pretexts.” These pretexts could be used by Tel Aviv to justify starting a new war in the region.

On the other hand, Rashad will present a set of proposals to the Lebanese government. The proposals aim to return to the path of the agreement to cease attacks and hostilities on both sides of the border. The goal is to avoid escalation and maintain relative stability.

Meetings with senior officials

The Egyptian intelligence chief is expected to hold a series of meetings with senior Lebanese officials. This includes Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Heikal. During these meetings, Rashad will present Egypt’s official position on the current situation and work to reach a consensus on ways to de-escalate border tensions.
