Thailand – In a remarkable diplomatic move that restores hope to Southeast Asia, the Thai Prime Minister traveled to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, today. This came in preparation for the signing of a ceasefire agreement with Cambodia, following years of border tensions and intermittent clashes between the two countries.

The agreement—sponsored by Malaysia with regional sponsorship from ASEAN—is expected to establish a permanent ceasefire monitoring mechanism. It will also enhance security and economic cooperation between the two neighbors.

Observers believe this move could usher in a new era of stability in the region. This comes amid broad international support for Thai-Cambodian efforts to end the conflict, in addition to the start of a phase of joint development that will restore confidence to the peoples of both countries.
