Kano, Nigeria – In an incident that sparked widespread controversy in Nigeria, a court in Kano, the largest city in the north of the country, issued a ruling compelling two TikTok celebrities to marry.

After they appeared in a video kissing and hugging each other,

it was deemed “immoral” in the Muslim-majority state.

According to a report by France Info Radio (RFI), influencer Idriss May Wocheria

and his girlfriend Basira Yar Goda have been posting clips depicting their life as a married couple.

Before the Islamic police, known as the Hisbah, intervened.

This is based on a court ruling to officially complete their marriage “as long as they show their love on TikTok.”

Kano State Judiciary Spokesman, Baba Jibu Ibrahim,

said the court “ordered the Hisbah Commission to conduct the marriage

within a period not exceeding two months.”

Stressing that the authority has actually begun preparing to implement the ruling.

The authority’s director general, Aba Sofi, told AFP, “

The marriage will take place as soon as possible.”

Pointing out that both parties expressed their explicit consent as required by Islamic jurisprudence.

Kano State is one of 12 Nigerian states that apply Islamic Sharia law alongside civil law.

The Hisbah Commission is responsible for prosecuting those

it deems to be publishing “immoral” content on social media.

The decision comes amid escalating controversy over individual freedoms in northern Nigeria.

Islamic authorities face repeated criticism for interfering

in the behavior of influencers and internet users,

At a time when digital platforms are growing in popularity among young people.
