Uganda – Ugandan police announced Wednesday morning that a tragic traffic accident had killed 63 people and injured several others, following a collision between two buses on one of the country’s busiest highways.

Authorities reported that the accident occurred after midnight on the highway linking the capital, Kampala, to the city of Gulu in northern Uganda. This road is one of the most vital and traffic-hungry roads.

According to preliminary investigations, the accident resulted from both buses, coming from opposite directions, attempting to overtake other vehicles at the same time. This led to a violent head-on collision. The police statement added that the force of the collision was a direct cause of the large number of casualties.

Ugandan authorities expressed their deep sorrow over this tragic accident. They confirmed that they had opened a comprehensive investigation to determine the details and circumstances of the incident, emphasizing the need for all means of transport to adhere to traffic laws and safety procedures, especially on highways.
