Washington, United States – US Vice President J.D. Vance strongly criticized Russia on Sunday.

He described its war in Ukraine as having reached a state of “stagnation”, after more than three years of fighting.

He also stressed that Moscow does not have much to show in terms of tangible gains on the ground.

Vance’s comments came in an interview with Fox News Sunday, where he said: “The Russians have killed a large number of people, and lost huge numbers of soldiers, but when you look at the situation on the ground, they do not have a lot of territory to show as a result of this war”.

He added that recent developments reflect a change in “the reality on the ground”.

In addition, he pointed out that Russian forces find themselves unable to achieve strategic breakthroughs, and that mutual attacks are revealing the limits of Russian power more than ever before.

Vance referred to President Trump’s recent statements, in which he said that Ukraine “is now capable of regaining its territory and perhaps progressing further”.

Vance commented: “The situation has already changed, Russia is no longer the one holding the initiative”.

According to the New York Post, Vance explained that Moscow paid a heavy price, both in terms of the death toll and military resources.

But actual results on the ground remain very limited, making the war appear to have entered a long-term phase of attrition.
