Cairo, Egypt – German Ambassador to Cairo Jürgen Scholz affirmed that Berlin considers Cairo a pivotal strategic partner in the Middle East. He also emphasized that Egypt represents a voice of reason and responsibility in dealing with the region’s crises, especially the Palestinian issue.
The ambassador explained that Germany, despite its historical commitment to Israel’s security, does not support all of the Israeli government’s policies. He said Berlin has the right to voice criticism. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is tragic and deserves serious attention.
He added that his country has allocated nearly 300 million euros in humanitarian aid to support the Palestinian people, both in the Gaza Strip and through Palestinian Authority programs. He noted that cooperation with Egypt remains the cornerstone of any international effort to resolve the crisis.
The ambassador also recently participated in the opening of the first Egyptian-German school in Cairo as part of the Joint Education Initiative. He considered this a step toward a more diverse and brighter future for future generations, as it integrates Egyptian curricula with German language and culture.
He pointed out that Berlin also supports 23 small development projects in various Egyptian governorates, with funding amounting to EGP 13 million. These projects target education, health, the environment, and women’s empowerment, reflecting Germany’s desire to invest in Egyptians above all else.
The ambassador concluded by emphasizing that Egyptian-German relations are proceeding on a balanced path, one that combines political dialogue with economic and cultural cooperation. He noted that Berlin views Cairo as an indispensable partner for regional stability.
