Washington, United States – The United States has agreed to sell several Patriot air defense systems and other weapons.
The deal goes to its NATO ally, Denmark.
The latter intends to support Ukraine in confronting Russian forces fighting battles in Ukraine.
The US State Department approved the deal, which is estimated to be worth $8.5 billion.
It includes 6 launch pads, radar and guidance systems, and associated missiles.
Denmark and other countries in the military alliance are seeking to provide Ukraine with advanced weapons systems to strengthen its defenses against Russian attacks.
Since Denmark does not operate Patriot systems, it is forced to purchase them from the United States.
The Netherlands purchased Patriot systems with the aim of providing them to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
In recent months, Kiev has long asked its allies in the West to provide it with Patriot systems.
This is to provide better protection for its cities against Russian air strikes.
With the United States reluctant to finance additional arms shipments to Ukraine, allies within NATO are purchasing American systems and transferring them to Ukrainian forces.
