London, Britain – British singer Charlotte Church sparked widespread controversy after revealing that she had completely given up using deodorant some time ago, and had also stopped removing her body hair.

Highlights
  • Women should feel free
  • A new wave of small movements
  • A personal choice, not a social obligation

She emphasized that she chose to “return to nature,” even though this confuses many people.

Her comments came during her appearance on the “Walking the Dog” podcast, after host Emily Dean praised her scent.

This surprised Church and prompted her to reveal the details of her decision.

Church, 39, who is from Cardiff, said she no longer uses deodorants.

This is due to concerns regarding chemicals.

Host: “I don’t use anything like that… so I usually smell bad.”

Women should feel free

She explained that she had refrained from shaving for 18 months.

She stressed that women should feel free to choose what suits them:

“Dye it, shave it, do whatever you want… but I decided to leave it as it is.”

She noted that she enjoys the “contradiction” between her elegant appearance and the fact that she does not remove her leg hair.

She said: “I love wearing beautiful dresses with high heels and hairy legs…it confuses people.”

A new wave of small movements

For her part, beauty journalist Anita Paguandas considered Church’s stance

It reflects a new wave of “small movements” within the beauty world,

Many are turning away from traditional products due to growing concerns about chemicals such as aluminum.

She emphasized that lockdown periods during the coronavirus pandemic reinforced this shift.

This comes after people have become accustomed to foregoing beauty salons and returning to a simpler routine.

A personal choice, not a social obligation

Bagwandas added that the issue of hair removal is now treated as a personal choice rather than a social obligation.

She pointed out that “hair exists for a biological reason,” and that leaving it has become a normal thing adopted by wide segments, especially of the younger generation.

She also pointed out that stars like Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus have appeared more than once with looks that rely on natural hair.

Regarding the controversy surrounding the safety of deodorants,

The British Cosmetic and Personal Care Association confirmed that all products in circulation are subject to strict standards, and that scientific studies

The most recent report by the European Commission for Consumer Safety in May 2024 proved that aluminum is safe and has no connection to breast cancer.
