Cairo, Egypt – The incident of media personality Sherif Madkour being subjected to abuse on social media has turned into a lesson in ethics and tolerance.

Highlights
  • Not being silent
  • A humanitarian decision
  • Spreading a culture of respect for others

This came after he decided to confront the situation in a legal and humane way,

setting a high standard in dealing with cyberbullying.

Madkour revealed, in a live broadcast via his official Facebook page,

the details of the incident that began when one of the pages published two pictures of him,

One of them is recent and the other is from the high school period,

prompting a flood of comments ranging from positive to negative.

But one comment, which he described as “offensive and inappropriate,”

prompted him to take immediate action to protect himself legally.

Not being silent

The journalist explained that he went directly to the internet investigations

department in Abbasiya and filed an official report against the offending person.

He stressed that this time he decided not to remain silent about any verbal abuse.

He added that tracking the account revealed that the commenter was

a 59-year-old man residing in the Helwan area.

The accused’s daughter contacted Sherif Madkour to offer

an apology on behalf of her father.

She noted that he had already been arrested and later released

after paying bail of 10,000 pounds.

This is on the condition that the case be referred to the Economic Court for consideration.

A humanitarian decision

But Sherif Madkour surprised everyone with an unexpected humanitarian decision,

as he stipulated that in order to drop the report, the man must

go to Ahl Masr Hospital to donate to the injured.

And to take a commemorative photo while donating next to his photo in the hospital.

Indeed, the man fulfilled the condition and made a public apology,

which prompted Madkour to drop the case out of respect for

his circumstances and appreciation for his gesture.

Spreading a culture of respect for others

The journalist stressed that his goal was not punishment, but rather spreading

a culture of respect for others on social media.

He stressed that social media should be a space

for positive interaction, not for abuse or bullying.

He urged his followers to turn any negative experience

into a beneficial action that serves the community.

Sherif Madkour concluded his speech with an awareness message in which he said:

“The law is important, but humanity is more important.”

We can all turn a bad situation into something beautiful

if we have the intention to fix things, not to take revenge.”
