Dubai, United Arab Emirates – At least 350 tourists stranded on the Tibetan side (a region of China) of Mount Everest were rescued following a snowstorm.
The report stated that rescue teams safely transported the group to the nearest settlement, Chudang.
Previous reports indicated that nearly 1,000 people were trapped at an altitude of about 4,900 meters on the eastern side of the mountain.
Their tents were reportedly partially damaged by the storm, and heavy snow closed access roads.
The number of people stranded on Mount Everest remains unclear.
Government news platform Jimo Xinwen reported injuries at the site, although there was no confirmed information about possible deaths.
Notices on the official accounts of the local tourism company (WeChat) indicated that snowfall began on Friday evening and continued throughout Saturday.
The company added that ticket sales and entry to the Everest region were suspended from late Saturday evening.
Across the border in Nepal, police said heavy rains caused landslides and floods.
This has closed roads, destroyed bridges, and killed at least 47 people since Friday.
35 people were also killed in separate landslides in the Ilam region in the east of the country, adjacent to India.
Reports arrived of 9 people missing after they were swept away by floodwaters.
Three others were also killed by lightning strikes in other parts of the country.
