Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The 5th Brain Diseases Conference kicked off Friday in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, at the InterContinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi. More than 450 international doctors and experts in neurology and neurosurgery from around the world are participating. This scientific event confirms Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading medical destination and a global center for innovation and scientific research.

  • Intensive scientific program
  • Participants’ statements
  • Importance of the conference
  • International accreditation

The conference continues until September 14. It includes a comprehensive scientific program featuring more than 45 specialized lectures and workshops. The program focuses on five main topics: dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis and cerebrovascular diseases, Parkinson’s disease, tremors, and movement disorders, neuromuscular diseases and myasthenia gravis, as well as migraines and chronic headaches.

Intensive scientific program

The first day included foundational sessions and practical workshops. One included a workshop on the use of electroencephalography (EEG) in the diagnosis of epilepsy. Another workshop covered the semiology of epilepsy, which aims to understand clinical signs and relate them to brain regions. Plenary sessions covered the latest research in migraine prevention and Alzheimer’s disease management, developments in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, and the new outlook on the treatment of myasthenia gravis.

The second day includes keynote lectures on Abu Dhabi’s leadership in neurotechnology and ethical innovation, in addition to specialized sessions on demyelination, headaches and migraines, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. The second day will feature an advanced workshop on spinal pain management from a diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitative perspective.

On the third and final day, the conference will focus on movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and new uses of non-invasive brain stimulation. It will also feature sessions on neuromuscular diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and myasthenia gravis. It will conclude with expanded sessions on epilepsy and the latest anti-seizure medications.

Participants’ statements

Dr. Suhail Abdullah Al Roken, Consultant Neurologist and President of the Emirates Neurological Society, said: “The launch of the Fifth Brain Diseases Conference in Abu Dhabi with such global momentum reflects the capital’s status as a trusted destination for medicine and scientific research. The participation of more than 450 doctors and experts, and over 45 lectures and workshops, makes this forum a strategic platform for formulating modern treatment protocols and discussing the latest findings in medical research.”

He added: “Abu Dhabi has proven that it is not just a conference host, but rather an integrated environment for medical innovation, with its advanced facilities such as Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, and the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Center (ADSCC), which is a pioneer in regenerative medicine and bone marrow transplantation. These capabilities have boosted patient confidence locally, regionally, and internationally, making Abu Dhabi a first-choice destination for advanced healthcare.”

Professor Naji Al Riachi, University Professor at Khalifa University, Consultant Neurologist, and Medical Director of the Neurosciences Center at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi, emphasizes that the conference represents an ideal platform for promoting international cooperation and fostering knowledge transfer to the region. He points out that Abu Dhabi’s development in medical and educational infrastructure qualifies it to become a global center for research and development in medical sciences.

Importance of the conference

Participants view the conference as more than an academic gathering, but rather a platform that unifies global research efforts. It also facilitates the exchange of clinical experiences, contributing to improving patients’ quality of life. This reflects the UAE’s commitment to promoting scientific research in critical medical fields and supports Abu Dhabi’s drive to become a global hub for knowledge and innovation in the field of neurology.

International accreditation

The conference is scientifically accredited, allowing participating physicians to earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours. This enhances its academic value and makes it a valuable addition to the continuing medical education of physicians and specialists in the region and the world.

With this launch, Abu Dhabi confirms its ability to host major medical conferences with global impact. Not only by bringing together experts under one roof, but also by providing an environment conducive to research and innovation, it strengthens its position on the global medical map and translates its vision to be a beacon of science and humanitarian medicine.
