Avocado is not a sleeping medication but contains sleep-inducing nutrients/agencies

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – A recent study revealed that eating avocados daily is associated with better sleep quality, a better diet, and better cholesterol levels. This has a positive impact on the body’s health.

Highlights
  • Avocado and sleep quality
  • Heart health

The study was published in the American Heart Journal. It lasted for 6 months and included 969 adults in the United States. These adults suffered from abdominal obesity and did not eat more than one or two avocados per month.

Fairwell Health reported that the researchers divided the participants into two groups:

The first group ate an avocado daily. The other group committed to two or fewer fruits per month. This aimed to study the effect of this fruit on the heart.

The researchers found that daily avocado servings did not promote overall heart health. However, they did improve sleep duration and quality, diet, and blood lipid levels.

Avocado and sleep quality

Avocado is not a sleeping medication. However, it contains sleep-inducing nutrients like magnesium, potassium, and healthy fats, said John Sitt, a physician and spokesman for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

He added that eating regular, balanced meals containing a mixture of fats, complex carbohydrates, and protein helps support the biological clock. It also supports the circadian rhythm.

Heart health

Previous studies have shown that avocados reduce the risk of heart disease. They are a good source of healthy monounsaturated fats.

Each avocado contains 10 grams of fiber, which helps lower cholesterol levels and protects against heart disease.

“A person will not benefit from eating an avocado daily if they are allergic to avocados, follow a low-potassium diet, or a very low-fat diet,” said Jamie Mock, a nutritionist in Los Angeles.

Mock added that other foods may offer similar health benefits, especially for sleep. These include walnuts, sour cherry juice, fatty fish such as salmon, and herbal tea.
