Abu Dhabi, UAE – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Excellency Brice Olugué Nguema, President of the Republic of Gabon, witnessed today the signing ceremony of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and Gabon.

Highlights
  • Boosting bilateral trade flows
  • Supporting sustainable development in Gabon

The agreement aims to strengthen trade and investment relations. Moreover, it opens new horizons for joint economic growth.

His Highness the President affirmed that the agreement represents a significant milestone in bilateral relations and embodies the UAE’s approach to building sustainable development partnerships. These partnerships serve the common interests of nations and provide opportunities for future generations.

In addition, he added that the program of economic partnership agreements expands the UAE’s network of global trading partners. This network reflects the country’s understanding of the importance of international cooperation in achieving sustainable development. Furthermore, it improves the quality of life for communities.

Boosting bilateral trade flows

The agreement was signed at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, and His Excellency Thierry Menkou, Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and Investment of Gabon.

The agreement aims to enhance bilateral trade flows and expand cooperation between the public and private sectors. Additionally, it seeks to establish a platform for partnerships between the business communities of both countries. It will also facilitate investments in vital sectors such as agriculture, logistics, and renewable energy.

Supporting sustainable development in Gabon

The agreement will also contribute to reducing customs duties and removing barriers to trade. Additionally, it encourages cooperation between private sector companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),

thereby supporting sustainable development and achieving long-term economic growth.

The agreement reflects the UAE’s role as a key trading partner for Gabon in the Arab region. Notably, non-oil trade between the two countries reached US$320.7 million in 2025. This is more than double the trade volume recorded in 2021.

The agreement aligns with the UAE’s strategy to expand its economic relations in Africa. It also capitalizes on promising opportunities for sustainable growth and economic diversification.

During the ceremony, several memoranda of understanding were announced. These included those related to defense cooperation, the establishment of a joint UAE-Gabonese Business Council, and a women’s empowerment program between the UAE General Women’s Union and the Gabonese Ministry of Social Affairs.
