Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals and the Government Knowledge Exchange Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, in cooperation with the Sustainable Development Goals Academy, launched the “Preparing Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals 2030” program.
This aims to empower governmental, national and international leaders with modern tools, knowledge and skills in leading efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The program aims to enable participating leaders to adopt sustainable development principles within government action strategies.
By developing future leadership skills, promoting strategic thinking, and building capacities in the areas of international cooperation and partnerships for sustainable development.
This enhances integration between government agencies and contributes to improving institutional performance.
The programme, which is supervised by experts from the UAE government, includes:
It includes knowledge visits to leading government agencies, workshops, and interviews with 17 Emirati experts and 32 government leaders from 14 countries.
Among them are 13 international participants and 19 participants from the UAE, representing senior leadership levels that include ministers, general managers, and undersecretaries, including a minister from the Republic of Maldives, an assistant minister from the Republic of Serbia, and an assistant undersecretary from the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Developing national and global competencies
Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange and Chairman of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, stressed that the launch of the “Preparing Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals 2030” program comes within the UAE’s efforts to support efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals nationally and globally.
This consolidates its position as a global center for exchanging knowledge in the field of sustainable development and supporting the UN Agenda 2030.
He said that the programme represents a practical platform for developing national and global competencies concerned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
Through interactive sessions and practical workshops that enhance thinking about designing and implementing sustainable initiatives and projects.
He added that it supports building influential partnerships between the governmental and international sectors in the fields of development, environment and society.
For his part, Jeffrey Sachs, President of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, said that the Sustainable Development Goals Leaders Preparation Program contributes to supporting government leaders to confront the major challenges of our time.
He pointed out that achieving sustainable development requires leaders who think systematically, plan effectively, and enhance trust across borders and sectors.
He added that this program in the UAE strengthens these capabilities and builds a generation of leaders who will achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and work for a more peaceful and prosperous world.
He said that the Sustainable Development Goals Academy, affiliated with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network “SDSN”, is honored to support the UAE Government Knowledge Exchange Office and the UAE National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals in this distinguished program.
As part of its first track, the program witnessed the organization of intensive dialogue and interactive sessions over five days, which discussed the most prominent axes of sustainable development and future leadership.
The first and second days addressed the topics of leading transformation and governance for systemic change.
Through presentations, case studies, and thinking laboratories aimed at developing leadership capabilities.
In addition to enhancing institutional integration and expanding the implementation of the United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development.
